Neuralink successfully implants brain chip in second patient

The procedure involves implanting a coin-sized device connected to the cerebral cortex with 1,024 ultrathin electrodes. A special medical robot performs the delicate task of attaching these electrodes to the brain.

According to Musk, the second patient received an implant containing at least 400 working electrodes, although the exact date of the operation is unknown. Let’s remember that it was previously postponed due to the patient’s health problems.

Problems of the first patient

Neuralink’s first patient, Noland Arbo, who received the implant in January, had some problems connecting the electrodes, requiring adjustments to the algorithm that translates neural impulses into control commands.

Despite these challenges, Arbo managed to set a new record for the speed of controlling a cursor using only thought, even with only 10-15% of the electrodes working.

Neuralink plans to implant brain devices as part of its clinical trial program this year eight more patientsThe progress and results of these procedures will be closely monitored to evaluate the efficacy and potential of Neuralink technology.

In a recent interview with Lex Friedman, Musk, several Neuralink executives, and Arbo discussed the successes and challenges the company has faced. Musk also said he spoke with US presidential candidate Donald Trump about the need to create a government commission to reduce the regulatory burden on businesses.

Musk has expressed his intention to join this commission, arguing that current legislation stifles innovation in the US.
