Features of Unreal Engine 5
The new version of the popular game engine has received numerous improvements, from increased productivity for game creators and an improved editor interface to a host of technologies aimed at adding photorealism to game scenes.
The second includes: Lumen – solutions for global dynamic lighting and nanite – “micropolygonal” tool to increase geometry detail.
What are these tools interesting for?
Epic says that with Nanite and Lumen, developers will be able to create cinema-quality 3D scenes with lots of geometric detail and adjust dynamic lighting for them, without worrying about the technical aspects of optimizing for a particular “iron”.
In addition, Unreal Engine 5 has the ability to break up the open game world into parts that can be worked on by different development teams, creating even more complex games or speeding up the development process.
Epic submitted two technical projects to help developers implement their products. First – City Example – a city from the techno-demo The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience. Second – Lira It is a multiplayer shooter like Unreal Tournament. These examples will allow developers to learn how to work with Unreal Engine 5.
Using Unreal Engine 5
As stated during the presentation, Unreal Engine 5 is already used by dozens of studios. Yes, games like:
- Witch,
- FOLLOWER,
- Tomb Raider.
Remedy, Obsidian, and Ninja Theory have announced that the engine will be used in their future projects. The event also featured a demo of The Cavern, made by the authors of Gears of War, studio The Coalition. Unreal Engine 5 is expected to find application not only in games, but also in digital filmmaking and meta-universe design.
