Android 15 could be one of the most interesting updates in years. We already have access to beta builds that reveal a lot of details about exciting new features and improvements like satellite connectivity, anti-theft lock detection, privacy space, and more (more on that later).

Everyone is waiting for Google to release the stable version of Android 15. In the meantime, users want to make sure that their devices are eligible for the update as soon as the brand releases it. If you haven’t already, check out the list of eligible Oppo Android 15 devices. Unfortunately, this will be the last Android update for many devices.

Here I am sharing with you a selected list of Oppo phones that will stop receiving OS updates after Android 15. This will help you decide when to update your smartphone to continue enjoying the latest features and improvements.

When will Oppo start releasing the Android 15 update?

Android 15 is currently in the platform stable phase, which is the final stage of development where bugs and issues are being fixed. However, the stable release is not far away. Since Google has stuck to last year’s schedule so far, the stable version of Android 15 is likely to be released around October.

The latest Google Pixels are usually the first phones to come with a new operating system out of the box and everyone was expecting the same from Android 15 this year but that didn’t happen. The recently launched Pixel 9 series runs Android 14 instead of Android 15.

Once the stable build is live, Google will start rolling it out to eligible Pixel models. Other Android brands will join the party after making changes to their own skins (like ColorOS), which could take days or weeks.

Last year, Oppo started rolling out its stable Android 14 update in November, and we’re expecting a similar timeframe this year. If that seems like a long wait, you can join the Android 15 beta program to get early access to new features and other changes before they’re released to the public. The beta program is currently running for the Oppo Find N3, but it’s expected to expand to more devices in the coming weeks.

What’s new in Android 15?

Here are the key features of Android 15:

1. Anti-theft lock

The Find My Device Network is a great addition to Android, allowing you to find lost devices using a crowdsourced network of billions of Android devices. Google is making another big change to Android that will make things harder for thieves.

Android 15 has been confirmed to have an anti-theft lock feature. It uses Google’s AI to detect when your device has been stolen from you. If it does, it will automatically lock the device, preventing thieves from stealing your data. Best of all, thieves won’t be able to activate your device until they get their hands on your Google account details.

Stealing/jacking Android phones and selling them for money is a common practice among thieves, but Android 15 reduces the incentive by making the device unusable without the correct Google account details.

2. Satellite connection

Android 15 “expands platform support for satellite connectivity.” It adds support for SMS, MMS, and native RCS apps to use satellite connectivity to send and receive messages. The operating system also adds some UI elements to provide a consistent user experience.

Not all Android 15 phones will support satellite connectivity, as they will likely require a dedicated chip and carrier support.

3. Program archiving

Similar to offloading apps on iPhone, Android 15 will allow users to remove unwanted apps while preserving user data. There will be no data loss and you can continue where you left off after reinstalling/unzipping the app.

Android already has app archiving via the Google Play Store. This allows you to archive and restore those apps via the Google Play Store. However, Android 15 integrates this feature at the OS level, allowing users to archive/restore apps, even those installed outside the Google Play Store.

4. Private area

Android offers Private Space, which lets you store apps, photos, videos, documents, and other files that you don’t want others to access. For better security, use a different Google account and of course set a different lock to access your private space.

Files you upload to the private area cannot be seen by other users.

5. Split app shortcuts

This new Android 15 feature lets you create shortcuts for split-screen apps. Tapping on an icon will open the apps in split-screen mode, saving you a lot of time.
