Sony Professional Solutions Latin America introduces two new 4K portable cameras: the NXCAM HXR-NX800 and the XDCAM PXW-Z200 with SDI interface and MXF container.[1]Both models feature AI-powered recognition, high-precision autofocus (AF), a new 20x optical zoom lens, adjustable ND filter and an assignable lens ring.[2]The new models combine portability, functionality, compatibility and network connectivity to deliver inclusive, high-quality live broadcasting and recording. These cameras are ideal for use by individual operators and small teams in broadcast, corporate, educational and religious settings.

“The new HXR-NX800 and PXW-Z200 build on Sony’s expertise and strong heritage in the broadcast and content production industries, and combine the latest breakthrough technology trends including artificial intelligence and all-in-one streaming,” said Ian Cheng, Vice President, Imaging Solutions Division, Sony Electronics. “As we continue to expand our product portfolio, we are excited to combine some of our most sought-after and useful features into a portable camera that will enable professionals of all types to make their work more impressive, visually appealing and more efficient.”

High quality recording

AI-powered object recognition, autofocus (AF) and 4K 50p/60p/120p recording functions make it easy to shoot high-quality content with less manual work. The cameras are equipped with the BIONZ system. In addition, the HXR-NX800 and PXW-Z200 cameras are equipped with a stacked 1.0-type Exmor RS CMOS sensor, which provides high sensitivity and low noise.

The electronic variable neutral density filter allows the user to switch between 1/4 and 1/128 density. Additionally, users have the option to enable the auto neutral density function, which allows the camera to maintain the best exposure without the user having to make any adjustments, which is especially useful when quickly moving from indoors to outdoors. These models feature two rings for focusing and zooming.[3] and two variable IRIS/ND dials located side by side, allowing easy adjustment of exposure as well as focus and zoom. In addition, twelve assignable buttons offer further customization options.

Powerful zoom and image stabilization

Both cameras feature Sony’s G-series lens and include a 20x optical zoom lens that covers a 24mm wide-angle and 480mm telephoto lens, as well as a maximum aperture of F2.8-F4.5. These models can achieve 30x zoom (in 4K) and 40x (in HD) thanks to Sony’s Clear Image Zoom technology.

Active mode combines electronic correction and optical image stabilization to provide smoother images while moving.[4].

New compact design

Both cameras feature a new foldable viewfinder, a detachable microphone mount, and a foldable 3.5-inch LCD screen that allows users to check images and focus in brightly lit rooms. The new models are compact and feature an extremely lightweight design (HXR-NX800: approx. 1.93 kg (4 lb 4.1 oz), PXW-Z200: approx. 1.96 kg (4 lb 5.1 oz) including feature set). Additionally, both models can be folded for easy storage and transportation.

Compatibility and integration

The HXR-NX800 and PXW-Z200 integrate seamlessly with other Sony cameras. Presets such as S-Cinetone™, ITU709, 709tone, HLG Live, HLG Mild and HLG Natural can be easily changed to match colours shot with other Sony broadcast cameras such as the Cinema Line and Alpha series.

The new cameras support a wide range of recording formats, including XAVC HS, XAVC S, XAVC SI and XAVC HS Proxy (up to 16 Mbps). They also support proxy recording, which reduces the burden of storing and managing data during post-production, as well as TC/UB recording, which is necessary when working with multiple cameras. The PXW-Z200 will also support XAVC (MXF) recording via a future firmware update expected in June 2025.

In addition, the HXR-NX800 and PXW-Z200 are equipped with a variety of interfaces, including HDMI Type A, USB Type-C, LAN and REMOTE. The PXW-Z200 supports SDI (12G, 6G, 3G) input/output. [Level A/B]HD) and TC input/output.

Professional network connection

The HXR-NX800 and PXW-Z200 cameras offer a complete recording and streaming solution that allows a single operator or small crew to easily manage the capture and distribution of footage. By connecting the cameras to a network such as Wi-Fi, recorded footage can be streamed in real time to a variety of streaming services and video sites via RTMP/RTMPS or SRT.

Versatile file transfer options include HEVC (H.265) and AVC (H.264) codecs, automatic upload to the cloud or FTP server, and the ability to download proxy data in chunks for secure, high-quality single-file transfers.

Additionally, when paired with Sony’s new PDT-FP1 portable data transmitter, the two new cameras support higher-quality transmission thanks to the company’s exclusive QoS technology and Creators Cloud for Enterprise services, including Camera Cloud Connectivity, C3 Portal (a paid service), XDCAM, and M2 Live pocket and cloud streaming system.

Accessibility and sustainability

In recognition of Sony’s commitment to developing accessible and environmentally friendly technologies, the HXR-NX800 and PXW-Z200 camera menus can be controlled via voice reading and include a screen magnification function to expand various views to suit the user’s needs. The text-to-speech function reads out text and information on the screen, with adjustable volume and reading speed.

The new design of these cameras includes resin and SORPLAS™ material, a flame-retardant recycled plastic made from 99% post-consumer recycled material. Over the past 12 years, Sony has replaced approximately 426 tons of virgin plastic with recycled plastic in its camcorders and digital still cameras.[5]The packaging of the HXR-NX800 and PXW-Z200 reflects Sony’s commitment to minimising the use of plastic.

The HXR-NX800 and PXW-Z200 will be available in September 2024 with suggested retail prices in the U.S. of $3,299.99 and $3,999.99, respectively.
