What happened

A video of the fire first began to spread on TikTok. Most of the comments attempted to identify the burning car, but some quickly realized it was the Ford Probe Ghia Concept leaving Pebble Beach.

Shortly after, the car’s owner, Scott Grundfor, who also released information about the vehicle over the weekend, confirmed that the vehicle had been destroyed by posting photos of the aftermath.

It is with deep sadness and sorrow that we lost our 1979 Ford Ghia Probe I prototype in a highway accident on Sunday afternoon after showing the car at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
– the article says.

The crew driving the truck escaped without injury.

While no details were given on what exactly happened or what caused the fire, the report noted that the driver’s actions helped prevent the fire from spreading to surrounding forests.

What do we know about this concept car?

  • The Probe Ghia is just one of a series of Probe concepts created by Ford during its collaboration with Ghia in the mid- to late-1970s.
  • It was shown for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
  • Its futuristic (for the time) design featured a number of aerodynamic features aimed at improving fuel efficiency.

  • Ford continued to show Probe concepts from the early 1980s until 1985, three years before the production version of the Probe debuted in 1988.
