The recall is due to concerns that the decorative moldings on the Model X sunroof may not have been properly sealed during installation. According to NHTSA, these molds can be separated at high speedsposes a threat to the safety of other road users.

It is believed that the defect is related to insufficient priming of the surface before installing the sills, which increases the risk of their separation during movement of the car.

Maintenance and repair

Tesla owners affected by the recall will need to take their vehicles to a Tesla service center where technicians will check that the roof moldings are securely installed. If necessary, the moldings will be reinstalled according to the proper procedure.
