This will be a very useful function for those who often exchange files between the phone and the computer. Traditionally, a cloud service, a messenger or, in extreme cases, a USB was used for this.

Microsoft has decided to implement a simpler way of exchanging data between devices, a sort of Air Drop analogue. This update expands the functionality of the Windows Connect application, allowing users to easily share content from their PC to their Android device without needing a physical connection.

The Wi-Fi feature is included in Windows 11 Preview builds 22621.4112 and 22631.4112. The company started testing it even earlier, but it’s now rolling out to a wider audience beyond beta testers for the first time.

How does it work?

To use this feature, users need to connect their Android devices to a Windows PC using the Windows Connect app on the phone and the Phone Connect app on the computer.

Once set up, the Android device appears as a direct access object in the Android share table, facilitating file transfers.

The update is just starting to roll out to users, and Microsoft says it will be a gradual process so not everyone will see the new feature right away.
