iPhone users who opt for the Pro model but don’t mind the limited storage may be in for a surprise. Apple will likely increase the base storage for the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro from 128GB to a minimum of 256GB, according to a report from Taiwanese research firm TrendForce.

We expected this; Apple increased the base memory of the iPhone 15 Pro Max to 256GB last year, so it’s natural for the Pro model to follow the model in the iPhone 16 series. However, the increase in base memory could mean a higher starting price for the iPhone 16 Pro.

TrendForce suggests that this price hike may be more acceptable as the 16 Pro will also include the tetraprism zoom lens that was previously exclusive to the Pro Max model.

Apple did something similar last year when it introduced a tetraprism zoom lens on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which naturally increased the price. To make the higher price acceptable, the company increased the base memory from 128GB to 256GB.

Aside from the memory and camera, the report confirms previously leaked hardware details of the iPhone 16 series that the non-Pro models are expected to get the A18 chip, while the Pro models are likely to get the more powerful A18 Pro processor.

There’s also the possibility that Apple could increase the RAM on non-Pro models from 6GB to 8GB to meet the requirements for Apple Intelligence features. These are just early speculations, and specific details about the iPhone 16 series will likely emerge closer to the official launch, which is rumored to take place on September 9.
