What changed?

The original Apple Watch Ultra was released in 2022 and was primarily positioned as a rugged model aimed at adventure enthusiasts like rock climbing and scuba diving, but its larger screen size and longer battery life meant it was also popular with non-athletes or non-hikers.

• Ultra 2 left the design has not changedIt offers a slightly faster chip, a brighter display, and improved ultra-wideband technology.
• The Ultra 2 is now available in matte black, which Apple says is achieved through a special finishing process that applies a diamond-like PVD coating, giving the massive smartwatch a sleek and durable look.
• Apple also claims that the watch is made from 95% recycled titanium, making it more sustainable, durable, and scratch-resistant.
• A notable addition is the new Milanese strap, made of corrosion-resistant titanium, making it suitable for scuba divers. A strap from Hermes has also been released.

Interestingly, this year’s Apple Watch Series 10 offers a much larger screen size than the Ultra. Since that’s a big part of the appeal of the Ultra models, Apple may have expected few people to pay the high price for the new model in the series, which is why it didn’t release the third generation this year. But a new black titanium option for the current model does offer a possible way to boost sales.
