As planned, Huawei just announced the world’s first triple-folding: Huawei my friend. Unlike the foldables seen so far, it is a device that folds not once but twice. It has two hinges and a screen that is divided into three to get even closer to the “mobile phone that turns into a tablet” concept. And yes, it is an expensive product as expected.
And the base price of the Huawei Mate XT will be 19,999 yuan, or about 2,540 euros at exchange rates. The most expensive version with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage costs 3,050 euros. It is not known whether it will leave China, but if it does, we will get to know it a little better.

Folds and folds again
Huawei spared no expense. The company launched a device that spreads first class aroma With a vegan leather back in black or red on all four sides and gold detailing, it looks really classy. Here we have a generous camera module with three lenses, but we’ll talk about those later. Now on to the mother of the lamb: the shutter and the hinge.
In the absence of these smartphones with a Spanish name, we can talk about Tri-Fold or double-folded. The Huawei Mate XT has two hinges It allows you to use your mobile phone in different positions. The hinge system can be stretched from the inside and outside at the same time, and the thickness is maintained thanks to the sliding rail structure.
On paper, it’s a truly complex system, made up of 26 precision cams that should offer resistance as well as smooth closing. Additionally, Huawei claims to have reduced internal creasing by 25% and used the industry’s largest UTG glass to “double impact resistance.”
The screen can be used in three ways: single mode (traditional mobile), dual mode (foldable), and triple mode (tablet). In single mode, the size is 6.4 inches and the thickness is 12.8 millimeters. In dual mode, the screen grows to 7.9 inches and the thickness is significantly reduced. In triple mode, the screen expands to 10.2 inches, has a “3K” resolution, and reduces the phone thickness to 4.75 millimeters.
The main screen (single mode) is the part of the screen that will be on the left when viewed in full. If we want to use the dual mode, we need to show the back, that is, the camera area. For the triple mode, you just need to fold the main screen inwards beforehand.
The idea here is, obviously, that we can have a traditional mobile phone for everyday use, something bigger for productivity and something even bigger for entertainment. We are talking about a mobile phone that allows us to go from a 6.3-inch screen to a 10.2-inch tablet. More or less like we could get an iPad Air from an iPhone 15. All of these have the advantage of folding on the sides and not in the middle of the screen.
We’ll have to see how he does, but he doesn’t look bad.
What about inside?
Let’s talk about the components, leaving aside the screen, which is hard to say. Huawei did not leave anything out and implemented it 16GB RAM and a range of internal storage options, reaching tera in the most capable version. The processor is the same one we saw in the Pura 70, a Kirin 9010 5G manufactured by SIMC at seven nanometers, which will put it slightly below the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in terms of raw power.
The operating system is, as it could not be otherwise, HarmonyOS 4.2. Not only is it optimized for this format, but it is also equipped with various artificial intelligence tools such as text editor, translator, etc. The battery is not short at all, despite its shape: 5,600 mAh with 66W fast charging, 15W wireless charging and 7.5W reverse wireless charging
Finally, in terms of cameras, Huawei once again opted for XMAGE technology, which consists of a 50-megapixel main sensor with 5.5x optical zoom, a 12-megapixel periscope and a 12-megapixel wide-angle. Selfies are in the hands of an eight-megapixel sensor. It’s a very simple task, but Huawei has proven that it can do great things in terms of photography.
