After a long silence on artificial intelligence and Apple’s refusal to talk about the AI features in its devices, the company introduced Apple Intelligence in June of this year. It is an AI platform that has a different approach from its competitors. In other words, despite the fact that there are very advanced productive models offered to the user, Apple has preferred to go slower.
Privacy is one of the strong points, since some functions are processed on the device itself (which is one of the reasons why the new iPhone 16 has the same amount of RAM), but what we can do also seems very limited in possibilities and, above all, in languages.
That’s because Apple Intelligence, which will be coming to iOS and macOS in October, won’t be available in many languages at launch. In fact, It will only be available in English and will not be available in all markets. We then move on to a look at the future of languages and the future reach of Apple Intelligence.
More languages for Apple Intelligence
At its September 9 keynote, where we learned about the new iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16, Apple Watch Series 10, and new AirPods 4 (and all their new health-focused functionality), Apple teased that Apple Intelligence will launch in English first in the United States and expand to other regions later.
The company elaborated on this in a later press release, stating that the next step is to localize English in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom in December 2024. So: more regions from different parts of the world, but English speakers.
But Apple’s localization team is working to expand that list of languages in the coming months. As we can see from The Verge and an extension of Apple’s press release, Apple Intelligence languages coming in 2025::
- English for India.
- English for Singapore.
- Chinese.
- Korean.
- Japanese.
- Vietnamese.
- French.
- German.
- Italian.
- Portuguese.
- Spanish.
Does this mean that Apple Intelligence will come to Spain in 2025? With the information we have, we cannot confirm such a thing due to two factors. Apple has been very clear in its statement that it differentiates the same language for different regions (for example, different localizations for English). On the other hand, there is the European Artificial Intelligence Law that prevents some AI applications from reaching Europe.
Without going any further, we already have macOS 18 Sequoia and iOS 18, but we lack some of the functions that buyers in other regions have. Let Apple Speak “Spanish” About Apple Intelligence It could mean that it is an adaptation for Latin America, but there is a ray of hope to see Apple Intelligence in Spain because German and Italian are on the same list, languages that are official in Europe.
Only time will tell when Apple Intelligence will come to Europe, and also whether all regions outside and within the European Union will have the same functionality. And if you can’t wait, there is a way to try Apple Intelligence in Spain, although you’ll need to do some tricks with your phone and Mac.
