This had to happen and it did. Vivo left behind Google and became the first manufacturer to release the stable version of Android 15 for mobile phones. The lucky one was the Asian giant’s latest technology foldable model, Vivo X Fold 3 Pro.
For the first time, the stable version of Android is not arriving on a Google handset or related manufacturers, but a high-end Chinese version. The launch of Google Pixel 9 and 9 Pro with Android 14 was already a warning: Android 15 arrived on Google phones late and no one knew what to expect.
Android 15 has been available on AOSP since September 5. This opened a rather unusual door: Any manufacturer could release the stable version very soon, ahead of Google. All eyes were on manufacturers such as Samsung or Xiaomi, but Vivo was the first to surpass Pixel
As reported by Xataka Android, Vivo has become the first company to stabilize Android 15. Once the code is in AOSP, any manufacturer can release the update.
Google Pixel can currently only test Android 15 in beta. The stable release is expected to arrive in mid-October. In fact, one of the few criticisms that can be made to the new Pixel 9 is related to this. Yes, they have seven years of updates, but they should have been released with Android 15.
This is the first time that a brand other than Google’s ROM has released a stable version of Android before its own creators. There’s quite a delay this year between the release of Android 15 on AOSP and the release of the stable ROM for Pixels.
