New operating system from Apple
As the author of the article in Bloomberg writes, the new operating system will be called main operating system. It is designed for smart displays, which have been rumored for a long time on the Internet. The first of these is planned to be released in 2025.
Rumors about a device with a HomePod-like display have been circulating for over a year, and just this summer, Mark Gurman revealed that Apple was working on a desktop smart display equipped with a robotic manipulator that could tilt and rotate the screen for better viewing via tracking. Gurman reported the following in his final report: There are two versions of the work.:
- It’s a budget screen that will offer basic features like FaceTime and smart home control.
- A high-end robot option that will cost more than $1,000.
Reportedly, we will see the cheaper version first, and that will probably happen early next year. Later, a high-end display with a robotic “hand” attached to it, which is under development under the codename J595, will be available. Gurman previously wrote that the second option may not be released before 2026.
He states that the new home operating system will be based on tvOS for Apple TV and Apple Intelligence features will become a key part of the user experience for both devices. At the same time, Apple TV, HomePod and HomePod mini do not have AI functions and, by all accounts, will not get them.
However, Gurman suggests that tvOS and homeOS will eventually be combined into a single system and will work on all Apple home devices released from now on.
At the moment we do not know what the new operating system will be, what its capabilities and design will be. But it will most likely be similar to other smart home management systems. A lower-end smart display will be able to run basic apps such as Calendar, Notes, and Home, and will include an interface optimized for controlling home appliances and quickly displaying information. The more expensive one is likely to provide some special features.
