iPhone 17 Pro will offer another button update

Apple Introduced the Capture button throughout the series iPhone 16To make the camera more accessible. This design change is notable because Apple’s innovations are usually exclusive to Pro models for several years before reaching the base and Plus models. There are now new rumors that Apple is working on another button update for the models iPhone 17 Pro.

A new button replaces the volume buttons and action button

According to a leak from tipster Majin Bu, Apple will replace the volume buttons and Action button with new ones that apparently feature technology to replace both. The shutter button that Apple added this year has a sensitivity feature that can offer many interaction-based controls.

But there is little information about the actual functions of the new button. Majin Bu predicts that it will “act as some sort of volume control, ringtone, and other functions that are currently configurable via the capture button.”

Apple may change its mind until September 2025 and the new button may not see the light of day, but it is worth noting that Apple has tried similar prototypes in the past to combine volume buttons. Will the iPhone 17 series eventually see these changes in retail stores? There’s something left to see.

Speaking of other aspects, the iPhone 17 series will also have a “Slim” model that could reduce the performance gap between non-Pro and Pro models. If TSMC prepares the 2nm production line on time, a 2nm chip may also be included in the series. For those who don’t know, the 2nm process could offer another major improvement in performance and power efficiency where Apple could implement more AI features running natively.

Previous rumors also suggested that non-pro models might eventually get ProMotion support with a 120Hz refresh rate, ending the iPhone’s standard 60Hz refresh rate.
