Apple and Qualcomm are rivals in terms of processor development, with the former heavily reliant on the latter for modems used in smartphones. Apple has been trying to develop its own modem for a long time, but the new iPhone SE, which will be released next year, may be the first Apple smartphone to try such a modem.

This was reported by the source 9to5Mac, which could not calm down after the publication of Bloomberg describing the innovation. iPhone SE He thought it would be better to gather additional information about the new product, which is planned to be released in the spring of next year. Representatives of 9to5Mac managed to find out through their channels that the device called iPhone SE 4 (V59) will be similar to the iPhone 14, and the physical Home button on the front panel with the Touch ID function will disappear. The resolution of the OLED screen will be 1170 × 2532 pixels, as on the iPhone 14, but the cutout at the top of the screen for the front camera and sensors will remain and the presence of Dynamic Island will be preserved as a privilege in more expensive models. Meanwhile, the price of the new iPhone SE will start at $459, beating the price of the previous model by at least $30.

However, the presence of a modern A18 processor combined with 8 GB of RAM will allow the new iPhone SE to support a number of Apple Intelligence functions. The basic iPhone 16, which offers a 5-core graphics subsystem, will share the processor with the innovation. The iPhone SE 4 will borrow the 48-megapixel main camera from the iPhone 15 with a wide-angle lens, but will lose the ultra-wide-angle and telephoto optics. The front camera will be 12 megapixels.

iPhone SE 4 It is testing Apple’s own self-developed modem that will support 5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. This structure received the conditional name Centauri and was created with the participation of former Intel specialists who moved to Apple after the 2019 agreement. Since then, attempts have been made by Apple to independently create a 5G modem, and now there is a chance of success. A self-developed modem will not only reduce the cost and simplify its integration at the software level, but will also allow reducing energy consumption during information transfer, especially in the battery saving mode of the smartphone.
