A man named Michael probably has no regrets about choosing Rivian over Tesla, as runoff, mud, and high winds carried his pickup truck “100-150 feet,” the equivalent of 30-45 meters. Jalopnik writes that all he needs now is a good shower.
Rivian R1T survived Hurricane Helen
The owner of the car said he parked his electric pickup truck on Thursday night and when he came to pick it up on Saturday, he found it wasn’t parked where it was supposed to be. Blogger Joshua Vincent Sauer showed off the car in a video posted on Facebook and TikTok, and even opened it to reveal that everything inside was in perfect order.
The outside of the car is completely covered with mud or clay. Michael also showed another video on his smartphone, taken shortly after the R1T was found, showing that initially the situation was even worse, only that some of the dirt had already dried and started to flake off.
When Michael found the car, he saw that the door handles were unlocked, meaning the power was still there. The man got behind the wheel, expecting some surprises, but the pickup was “full as if nothing had happened.” He drove to the nearest charging station and then “walked around town and so far I haven’t noticed any problems.”
Although this is not ideal, it is a very good result because the car encountered a strong element. In the video, we can also see major damage in the area where the Rivian pickup truck was parked, and other vehicles suffered much more damage. While a gasoline-powered car is likely to be destroyed along with its engine, and at least some electric cars have faced battery fires due to contact with water, the Rivian is still functional. How is this possible? Well, this is what the company says Batteries are sealed and protected against flooding.
Even though there are small scratches from rocks and branches hitting the trunk under all that dirt, everything looks as if it didn’t need any repairs.
