The Chinese market research agency CINNO Research published remarkable data about Huawei. According to this shared data, Huawei sold more smartphones than Apple in China as of August 2024. The last time Huawei was able to do this was exactly 46 months ago. In other words: Huawei has surpassed Apple after roughly four years.

As is known, Huawei fell under the American embargo a few years ago. This caused the company to fall behind in the smartphone industry. In fact, the company couldn’t even offer 5G connection support until recently. As such, the company, which started using its own 5G modem in the Kirin 9000s processor, started to shine again, at least in mainland China.

Chinese people started turning to local businesses

To be honest, this development isn’t all that surprising. Because the Chinese have been focusing on domestic companies lately. In this context; According to data published by the China Academy of Information and Communication Technology, sales of foreign companies fell 12.7 percent to 1.87 million in August 2024. Chinese technology manufacturers, on the other hand, increased their sales by 26.7 percent, with sales of more than 24 million units in the same period.

In the meantime; It would be inappropriate to expect an Apple breakthrough in China, at least for the current period. Because the company will not introduce Apple Intelligence technologies, which it introduced into our lives with the iPhone 16, to the Chinese market before next year. As such, consumers will wait until this technology shows renewed interest in Apple.
