In recent years, Motorola has been less than impressed with the distribution of software updates. Most brands usually release the latest Android update once the rollout is finished. But 2024 has been a different year for the brand, which seems to be taking things seriously.
The American brand recently started rolling out five Android updates for select models. While it’s not the best among Android brands, Motorola fans will be quite grateful. Surprisingly, Motorola is already rolling out the Android 15 beta ahead of Samsung and many other brands. Motorola also confirmed the availability of Android 15 for many of its devices. Although the brand has not made an official statement, details can be found on the company’s official support page.

At first glance this seems like a solid list, but you’ll quickly notice that many phones are missing. The most notable omissions are the Moto G64 and Moto G (2024). Both were released this year and were supposed to be updated to Android 15.
Please note that the above list was compiled by consulting the device’s support pages. Motorola may not have updated support pages for many devices. So if your device is not listed above, wait for the official announcement. In the meantime, you can take a look at our list of Motorola Android 15 devices based on software update policy.
Motorola may release the Android 15 update earlier than last year. This is because the Android 15 beta is already running on some models, including the Edge 50 Fusion, which is almost three months ahead of the Android 14 beta.
What can be expected from Android 15?
Android 15 doesn’t offer many visual updates but has a strong focus on privacy and security. Here are the new features you can see after updating your Motorola phone to the new operating system:
1. Anti-theft lock
This new feature uses artificial intelligence to determine if your phone has been stolen and locks your phone to prevent thieves from stealing important data. You should enable this feature, called “Theft Detection Blocker”, as soon as possible.
In a blog post, Google revealed that the feature reduces the incentive for thieves by making it harder to reset a device. Google says that if a thief hard resets a stolen device, they won’t be able to set it up again without knowing your device or Google account details.
2. Private space
Android 15 also offers a private space. This is a separate area for storing important programs for an added level of security. All applications in the private area are invisible to other users and are hidden in recent applications.
This feature is already available on Google Pixels with the Android 15 update, it may also appear on Motorola phones.
3. Program pairs
Android 15 lets you create shortcuts for your favorite pairs of apps to open in split-screen mode. For example, you can create a shortcut to open YouTube and Notes in the same window.
4. Program archiving
Android phones already support app archiving, which allows users to uninstall an app while preserving user data. However, this feature is only available through the Google Play Store. The upcoming version of Android 15 has this feature, which means it will also support apps installed outside the Google Play Store.
The application archiving function is designed to save memory by archiving applications that you do not want to use for a short time. By opening the application, you can continue where you left off without losing any data. The next update to your Motorola device will likely bring more features and smarts.
