Apple published a line iPhone 16 With the promise of offering more AI features along with some minor hardware updates. A recent camera test by DxOMark showed how iPhone 16 Pro Max it’s hard to compete with some of its Chinese counterparts when it comes to preserving detail, especially at telephoto.

This is partly due to the 12MP telephoto sensor, which quickly starts losing detail when the user starts cropping the sensor.

In a recent news, analyst Jeff Pu reiterated his previous statement by saying that the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will have a 48-megapixel periscope telephoto lens and a 24-megapixel front camera.

Using a high-resolution telephoto lens will undoubtedly increase the level of detail in images taken at 5x magnification. The selfie camera on the iPhone 16 models also has a resolution of 12 MP, so we should expect improvements here too.

Apart from this, the main camera seems to remain the same as the iPhone 16 Pro models, which is the same as the iPhone 15 Pro models. With all that said, we’ll have to see how much improvement Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro models manage to deliver in the 24-120mm focal length range (main camera) based on image processing improvements alone.

The analyst also expects iPhone 17 Pro models to have 12GB of RAM, up from 8GB on the iPhone 16 Pro models; this can better support more complex AI operations on the device. In the iPhone 16 series, Apple opted for 8GB of RAM for all models (increasing to 6GB on non-Pro iPhone 15 models), thanks in part to Apple Intelligence features.

Speaking of the front of the device, the analyst believes that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will have a “significantly narrowed dynamic island” as a result of the device using a smaller “metal” for the Face ID system. If true, this would be the first reduction in size of Dynamic Island since its launch on iPhone 14 Pro models in 2022.
