It will soon be easier to connect to public Wi-Fi on Android phones

Android phones will soon get a feature that makes it easier to connect to public Wi-Fi networks.

Public Wi-Fi networks, which we encounter everywhere today, can now be considered safe without using a VPN thanks to security measures. Some networks require logging in with a social media account or sharing personal information to gain accesscan cause problems for users.

Under current circumstances, it is necessary to enter user information manually

These pages, called Captive Portals, do not have access to autofill data, so users must enter their data manually each time. This is because Captive Portal pages are opened using Android’s System WebView implementation.

Although WebView is a component that displays web-based content within applications, it does not share user session information and autocomplete with browsers such as Chrome. So, Captive Portal pages ask the user to re-enter login credentials or other details every time, but Google has taken steps to change this.

Soon all registered data will be filled in automatically

Soon Captive Portal pages are accessed through custom Android tabs and thus it will be possible to access the user’s login details and saved passwords.

To provide this update, Google has prepared a new update that adds custom tab support to the Captive Portal Login application. While the feature won’t make a major improvement in security when rolled out to users in the future, it will improve the user experience and enable faster connection to public Wi-Fi networks.
