How is it going to be?
Neuralink has received approval from Health Canada. Toronto Western Hospital became the first and exclusive surgical site for the procedure, Channel 24 reported, citing the company’s official statement.
The company first opened its Canadian patient registry in March of this year but is now actively seeking potential participants. “Recruiting is now open,” he announced on X.
As part of the CAN-PRIME study, Neuralink inserts its implant into the participant’s brain so it can interpret their neural activity. The implant will allow you to control a computer or smartphone with the help of your brain, without using wires or any physical movement.
Neuralink said the study aimed to “evaluate the safety of the implant and the surgical robot, as well as evaluate initial functionality.” [мозкового комп’ютерного інтерфейсу]”This will allow paralyzed people to control external devices with the power of thought.” The experience gained during the trials could help the company find safer ways to insert the implant into the brain and expand the technology’s capabilities.
- The first Neuralink patient received an implant at the beginning of this year. Although he is in good condition now, he experienced some problems when the implant’s threads separated from his brain.
- For the second patient, Neuralink implemented mitigating measures to prevent filament issues. This patient was already using computer-aided design (CAD) software just a few weeks after surgery in July.
Neuralink is now specifically seeking patients with “limited or no ability to use both hands due to cervical spinal cord injury or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)” to participate in trials in Canada.
