Long awaited debut Apple Developments in the foldable smartphone market are approaching, with rumors pointing to a potential launch in the second half of 2026. At first, speculation was pointing towards a clamshell design similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. But the latest findings from display industry expert Ross Young point in a different direction.

A foldable iPhone could save Apple from falling sales

According to Yang, Apple’s first foldable iPhone will likely have a larger, book-like form factor, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold series. This change aligns with growing consumer interest in larger foldable devices, as seen in the growing popularity of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series.

The timing of Apple’s entry into the advanced device market is crucial. While this segment has been growing steadily over the last few years, a slight slowdown is seen in 2023 and 2024. Apple’s arrival could breathe new life into the market, attract new users and stimulate innovation.

A foldable iPhone with a larger form factor would allow Apple to showcase its expertise in software design and optimization, potentially offering a more user-friendly experience than current foldable offerings. The high price of such a device could also significantly increase Apple’s revenue and profitability.

Currently, Android manufacturers such as Samsung, Google, OnePlus, and Huawei dominate the advanced device market, and they have all made advancements in functionality. But high prices remain a barrier to widespread adoption and have contributed to the recent market recession.

Analysts predict that Apple’s exit could boost growth in the complex device market by 30%, followed by steady annual growth of 20%. If executed correctly, Apple’s first foldable iPhone could transform the category and take the industry to its next phase of evolution.

Meanwhile, Apple is preparing to launch the iPhone 17 series, including the highly anticipated iPhone 17 Air, in 2025. Launched as the thinnest iPhone ever, the device is expected to set new standards in stylish and modern design.
