2024 has been a good year for those who buy Samsung’s high-end mobile phones. Reason: Qualcomm is more available than ever. Although the company is confident in its Exynos, this distinction is clearly visible even in its catalogue. The Galaxy S24 Ultra has the best Qualcomm, while the S24+ and S24 have Exynos.

This generation also brought foldable phones with Qualcomm processors, which may change next year. Historically, Spain has been one of the regions with the largest Exynos presence, and Korean sources hint at changes for next year.

The drama of three nanometers. Both TSCM and Samsung struggled to achieve good yield per wafer on their flagship lithographs last year. The jump to three nanometers was quite a headache, although it was eventually resolved.

The Exynos 2400 is essentially a four-nanometer processor, and that won’t happen until the company jumps to three nanometers with the Exynos 2500. To manufacture this processor, Samsung used FOWLP -‘Fan-out Wafer Level Package’ technology, a process that allows smaller packaging with greater efficiency.

Fixed in new Exynos. According to Korean sources, Samsung is confident in the performance of its three-nanometer manufacturing process. It managed to stabilize this and prepare for the arrival of the Exynos 2500, the processor that will debut in the next Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7.

The only reason why it is not implemented in S25 is that mass production is not easy and there is not enough quantity to supply this family. However, it is not excluded that the strategy of installing Qualcomm on the S25 Ultra and Exynos on other models in the family will be repeated.

The bar is too high. It’s not easy to beat the achievements Qualcomm has achieved today with the 8 Elite. Even Apple A18 Bionic or Dimensity 9400 (which are very close to them) cannot overcome this extraordinary processor they created.

After production issues, it seems difficult for Samsung to surpass what TSMC has achieved in this generation. Historically Exynos processors have always been behind Qualcomm, but in the last generation the results have been quite good.
