I have been following Realme’s footsteps for a few years now. Although not well known in Spain, their phones actually contain almost everything expected from a quality and affordable device: the best features as well as balanced software at the lowest possible cost.

Born as a sub-brand of OPPO, I have always viewed this brand as a sort of POCO for Xiaomi, although it has become “completely independent” over the years. With the launch of the latest GT7 Pro (not forgetting devices like the GT6) the company has demonstrated an extraordinary level of maturity. So much so that it begins to pose a threat to OPPO.

Tablets, mobile phones, game consoles, laptops… It’s a very busy Black Friday at Back Market. Choose your renewed offer and you can win too €20 extra renewing your old mobile phone.

some history

The “real me” first appeared at the launch of OPPO Real in 2010. Released in China, it was a phone focused on youth and was designed as a sub-brand of OPPO until it was established as an independent company in 2018.

Its first product was launched in India under the name “Realme 1” and was distributed on Amazon. They did this to make it clear that they were a brand with the potential to conquer emerging markets and then expand into the remaining regions. And yes, they wanted to compete head-to-head with Xiaomi.

Realme’s aim has been established since the beginning to offer phones with a very special and “happy” design to young people. The entry into the Chinese market took place in 2019 with the presentation of Realme X, Realme X Lite and Realme X Master Edition. With the entry into the Chinese market, the desire to conquer Europe arose.

Since the company belongs to the BBK Electronics group, it shares its resources with siblings like OnePlus and OPPO. In fact, although the three companies insist on complete independence, the operating system is a copy of the three brands.

A very Asian catalogue.

Realme, like other Asian manufacturers, has a very comprehensive catalog. The entry range consists of the Narzo and C series, which are priced around 100-150 Euros and have simple technical specifications.

The middle class includes number models, with Realme 13 leading the way. They are direct competitors of the Redmi 13, in fact their numbers and surnames – Pro, Pro+ – often overlap.

Despite the good work in this series, the GT family is the brightest family when we talk about Realme. This is a step forward for POCO with its philosophy of offering top-end features at a breakthrough price. The Realme GT6 was one of the best tested, offering a high-end set for less than 700 euros. There’s a lot to tell with GT7 Pro this year.

Realme GT7 Pro, Realme before and after

Realme GT

Realme GT7 Pro, OPPO Find X8 Pro and OnePlus 13. Independent brands but… almost the same phone. I even had the opportunity to review Realme GT7 Pro and OPPO Find X8 Pro in the same week. I couldn’t help but think that Realme is almost the same for 450 euros cheaper.

The price of this phone with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB internal memory is priced at 799 euros. The screen is practically the same as OPPO, it has Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite instead of MediaTek 9400 – a small plus – and the main difference is in the camera on the back of OPPO.

Let’s talk about numbers

Despite the strength of its catalog, Realme remains a small manufacturer globally. OPPO is currently ranked fourth, but Realme cannot make it into the top five. If we talk about sales volume, India is their main market and they are stronger than other regions.

The company has the opportunity to fill Huawei’s void in countries like Spain, but it seems unlikely that OPPO will reach fourth place behind Apple, Samsung and Xiaomi. But only time will tell.
