Engineers from the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute and the Daegu Kyenbuk Institute of Science and Technology participated in the project. They managed to create a hoverboard on a cushion of air that is slightly larger than a longboard.
How does a hoverboard work?
The vehicle is equipped with a pair of fans that pump air into a cushion under the board, causing it to rise above the ground. In addition, the engineers created a second prototype, which consists of two halves that are connected by a loop mechanism and rotate relative to each other.
The developers showed how the hoverboard independently moves to a person, and then travels with him, supporting his weight. In the video, you can see that the board can move on different surfaces: from flat tiles to puddles and gravel. Judging by the video, unlike the previous development based on an airbag, the hoverboard is fully controllable.

Engineers demonstrated another use of the hoverboard. They proposed using it as a courier robot that can be loaded with boxes of goods and sent to the customer’s home. However, for this the vehicle will still need to be refined because it does not have the set of sensors necessary for navigation.
