LPDDR5X RAM is expected to be used in smartphones in the coming months, and Realme has decided to take the first step and add a new standard of high-performance memory chips to its upcoming GT2 Explorer Master flagship.

According to the details shared on Weibo, Realme is expected to launch the GT2 Explorer Master in China on July 12. While other phone manufacturers continue to use LPDDR5 on their phones, the aforementioned brand is not in a hurry to implement new generation hardware on its flagship. Speaking of flagships, the GT2 Explorer Master will also feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 so customers get the best of both worlds.

Last year, Samsung announced the mass production of LPDDR5X RAM for future smartphones. So far even the Galaxy S22 series of the South Korean manufacturer does not have faster memory, so perhaps these chips will be found next year when the Galaxy S23 line is ready in the first quarter. After Samsung, Micron also started planning mass production of LPDDR5X RAM chips for various partners. Compared to LPDDR5, LPDDR5X is 1.3 times faster and offers speeds of up to 8.5Gbps compared to LPDDR5’s maximum bandwidth of 6.4Gbps.

These LPDDR5X chips are also more energy efficient, consuming 20 percent less power than standard LPDDR5. Combined with the improved memory of the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 manufactured using TSMC’s 4nm process, the GT2 Explorer Master could result in a better battery, but that will depend on how much battery Realme plans to pack in its upcoming flagship. , as well as all the expected software optimizations.

While the LPDDR5X is one step ahead of LPDDR5 in terms of performance and power consumption, it is also expensive to manufacture, which can drive up the price of the GT2 Explorer Master. At the moment we do not know how much this flagship will cost in China, but it is likely that Realme will treat this smartphone as a full ‘flagship’, so we expect a high price when it is officially announced.
