Xiaomi has updated its list of EOL (End of Life) products, which includes two former Redmi flagships, the K20 and K20 Pro. These smartphones will never be updated again. Also, it is not only about ordinary firmware updates that eliminate various bugs, but also about Android security updates.
Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro were launched in May 2019. Xiaomi’s policy is that the absolute majority of smartphones only receive firmware and security updates for two years, and now it’s time to end support for older flagships, even though they are fully functional on their own. Xiaomi is often criticized for its short-term software support for its products, especially against the background of Samsung and Apple.
Xiaomi also announced that from today it will stop working on MIUI beta versions for Xiaomi CC9 Pro, Redmi K30 5G, Redmi K30i 5G, Redmi K30, Xiaomi 10, Xiaomi 10 Pro, Redmi K30 Pro, Xiaomi. All of them will continue to receive the latest updates for a long time, but as of today, no new features will be implemented in MIUI for these models. In addition, these models will not receive MIUI 13.5 when they come out. In fact, these eight smartphones are in line for inclusion on the EOL list, but that won’t happen anytime soon. Source
