FBI suspects Huawei has intercepted US military data, including data on nuclear arsenal

According to CNN, the investigation began under President Barack Obama. So far, its results have not been made public, and the investigation itself was so secret that many senior officials in the White House and other agencies did not know about it until 2019.

What’s wrong with Huawei equipment?

According to the information obtained by the FBI during the investigation, the Chinese technology giant sold the devices they placed near the American bases to American mobile phone operators at suspiciously low prices. The Ministry notes that this equipment can create barriers and interfere with conversations on the line of the Department of Defense, including the communication of persons in charge of nuclear weapons.

what experts say

After examining the information, experts in the field expressed the opinion that it is incredibly difficult from a technical point of view to prove that this or that data packet was stolen or sent abroad. But several sources familiar with the progress of the investigation told reporters: There is no doubt that Huawei equipment has the ability to interfere not only commercial cellular traffic, but also limited radio waves used by the US military.

In a statement to the TV channel, Huawei, of course, denied such capabilities of its equipment. They stressed that the equipment cannot operate in the spectrum allocated to the US Department of Defense.

Sanctions against Huawei

It will be recalled that Washington included Huawei in the list of companies subject to sanctions in connection with the threat to national security in May 2019. The US accused the company of industrial espionage, theft of technology and threats to the economy.

In February 2020, The Wall Street Journal reported that Huawei had secret access to mobile networks around the world, citing statements from American officials.
