Apple plans to conquer the car market: CNBC reveals interesting details

The publication claims that the new CarPlay will help automakers sell cars more efficiently. And now, according to Apple, 98% of new cars in the US come with CarPlay. Statistics also show that 79% of buyers are willing to buy a new car only if they have software from Apple.

Relationship with Apple Car

CNBC is confident that automakers have the option to invest in the development of their own software or install CarPlay, thus giving up some of the potential revenue. At the same time, it is important that Apple does not charge for CarPlay, but in the future everything may change.

Konrad Layson, senior analyst at AutoForecast Solutions, believes it won’t be easy for automakers in the near future, as the market is forcing them to create software to stay behind.

Experts believe that the automotive software market will grow 9% annually by 2030, much faster than the entire automotive industry. By then, automotive software sales could reach $50 billion.

It turns out that “apple growers” are interested in the car market. Since General Motors already receives about $2 billion a year from car subscriptions, Apple plans to be successful there too: according to the company’s estimates, GM’s revenue from it could rise to $25 billion by 2030.

Apple says big brands like Honda, Nissan and Renault aren’t happy to support the new CarPlay. Only some automakers have announced models that will support the new version of the system, and most say nothing about software from Apple.

A Mercedes Benz representative told CNBC that the company is “evaluating all potentially important new technologies and features.” Land Rover is working with Apple “to learn how it can be a part of the company’s infotainment system.”

what analysts say

Earlier, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman expressed confidence in one of his daily newsletters that the new CarPlay is an important step towards the look of the Apple Car. The company has always prepared a software base before a new category of devices emerges, and that same base could be the updated CarPlay.
