Horizon Aircraft showed aerotaxy with transforming wings

The reference model is equipped with an electric motor, rotors and a system for switching between vertical take-off and horizontal flight. It is estimated that the commercial Horizon model will accelerate to 450 km / h and have a range of 500 kilometers.

What is known about the new device Horizon Aircraft

Horizon Cavorite X5 is an eVTOL that combines elements of classic airplanes, quadcopters and transforming vehicles. The patented system consists of fixed wings and built-in fans hidden under each wing, as in conventional airplanes. In cruise mode, the Cavorite X5 relies on the same mechanisms as other electric airplanes and engages the rotors during takeoff and landing.

According to Horizon founder Brandon Robinson, using such a scheme has given eVTOL several advantages. First of all, ultra-low bias resistance. By moving the fans under the wings, the Cavorite X5 increases flight efficiency, increases maximum speed and reduces battery consumption. So the Horizon device will fly longer distances than other eVTOLs with comparable size and characteristics, the developers are sure.

It’s hard to get that kind of speed from a multi-rotor system because you’ll run into all sorts of flutter and aerodynamic problems, these planes just aren’t designed for that kind of speed,
– said Robinson.

The Horizon president also said his company won’t compromise on security for its marketing slogans. For this reason, Horizon aims at a speed of 450 km/h and a range of approximately 500 kilometers, which is comfortable and safe for potential customers. According to him, other companies are already promising to accelerate to 860 km/h, unaware of the danger they may pose to their passengers.

As for the working prototype, the Cavorite X5 now has a wingspan of 6.7 meters, a length of 4.6 meters and a weight of about 227 kilograms. This device will soon go to the training ground to test flight systems. The Cavorite X5 will take off, land and go into horizontal flight mode. The company has yet to decide when a full-fledged version of eVTOL will hit the market.
