The gadget was developed as part of the third Xiaomi hackathon. This is an internal competition where the company’s engineers come to life and bring to life promising concepts. The new platform has many possibilities because it could become a viable alternative to voice commands.

how does everything work

MiGu works as a pair, connecting with a smartphone via Bluetooth. When the user wears the headband, a series of three sensors begin to monitor brain activity and transmit the data to the smartphone. The latter decodes and interprets signals by transmitting commands to the devices of the home ecosystem.

There are many scenarios for using the new gadget in practice. For example, a MiGu owner only needs to think it’s hot, so the system sends a command to the air conditioner and lowers the temperature by a few degrees.

Or, if the user wants to drink coffee, he can give the appropriate command to the coffee machine without getting up from the sofa. In the future, technology will allow you to perform many electronics-related household activities just by thinking about them.

Currently, the large size of the headband may put you away from the device, but this is strictly a temporary solution and if such a device comes to market it will definitely look compact and beautiful.

In addition to smart home management, Xiaomi is also considering using MiGu to support drivers. If the gadget notices that the user is too tense or has lost concentration, it sends an appropriate alert, encouraging them to focus or stop. In this way, Xiaomi wants to make driving safer.

When will the device be released?

MiGu Xiaomi Headband is not a commercial product. It can’t even be called a working prototype that the company is preparing for release. Projects developed in an online hackathon are created for proof of concept and internal testing. It is not yet clear whether the MiGu will withstand them, but given the prospects of using such a device, anything is possible.
