Samsung raises the stakes on folding smartphones and with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4An interesting and rational evolution of the previous “large format” foldable model, which now brings dramatic changes.
Although the format follows the line of its predecessors, Fold4 is slightly different and slightly wider and less high when folded. The commitment to photography is also supported by the more ambitious and powerful Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, and we are also faced with a terminal based on the Android 12L operating system, which especially “indulges” foldables. The price, yes, is still high.

This Fold4 is more “square” and that’s good news
Previous revisions of the Galaxy Z Fold looked really cool when unfolded, but when you fold these devices, the screen is a bit something longer what conventional terminals put out.
The evolution of the Galaxy Z Fold is subtle but striking: from left to right, Fold2, Fold3 and Fold4.
Things are a little different in the Galaxy Z Fold4. The height has been shortened a bit and we have gained some width compared to previous models and this is makes the mobile look “more mobile-like” when folded (We went from 24.5:9 to 23.1:9, and when the screen is viewed, something more “square” continues to show a large amount of information and is especially fun. The bezels have also been reduced a bit, which helps you enjoy these screens even more.
We are also faced with a terminal that is slightly thinner and lighter than the previous generation, and also benefits from the advances made in the previous generation: the front-camera duo is once again starring, not just the selfie camera. but for the camera under the screen This one debuted on the Galaxy Z Fold3 and has already caught our attention.
device will be available in four colors: gray green, beige, phantom black and burgundy (the latter available only on samsung.com). Aluminum and glass are once again the protagonists in construction that promises to be once again fantastic.
As in the past, our fingerprint reader is on the side and IPX8 certification this allows it to withstand immersion of up to 1.5 meters in fresh water for up to 30 minutes. Here it is better in any case don’t risk too much: not recommended for use on the beach (be careful there, there is no dust resistance) or in the pool, for example Samsung stated.
The real question is whether there are any significant changes to the hinge and that famous wrinkle this is appreciated with the opening of the Z Fold4. Samsung talked for a few minutes about the new hinge design, which is based on a gear mechanism that makes it slightly thicker than before: a new design allows the hinge to “thin” and retain the durability of older models.
The new hinge made it possible to reduce the overall thickness of the device.
We’ll have to check it out in our analysis, but despite its relevance it seems like a difficult problem to solve – it reminds us of the discussion with the iPhone notch and whether it bothers is subjective.
The power to unleash multitasking
At the internal hardware level, the most notable change is found in the SoC used: Fold3 uses Snapdragon 888, here powerful Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1a guaranteed SoC that will allow you to enjoy all the options of this device.
This is accompanied by the 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage we saw in the previous model, while connectivity is well resolved with its support. 5G, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.
Screens are, of course, the clear heroes of this terminal, and there are slightly different sizes here. Curiously, they include changes in resolutions, not changes in diagonals..
Thus, when folded we have a diagonal of 6.2 inches and a resolution of 2,316 x 904 pixels (it was 2,268 x 832 dots in Fold3, we gain pixels horizontally and vertically) and 7.6 inches unfolded and 2,176 × 1,812 (it was 2,208 × 1,768 in Fold3, we lose something in horizontal and gain in vertical resolution). In both cases we have refresh rates of up to 120 Hz.
We’ll have to see how the 4,400mAh battery behaves, but there’s no noteworthy news or capacity here – the format doesn’t have much room at the moment – nor fast charging support, which reaches a hidden 25 W. By the way, the adapter is not included in the box.
This screen and this processor invite us to multitask and enjoy the multi-space created by this diagonal when we open the Fold4.
when I do this especially we will take advantage of Android 12LA version specifically designed for tablets and folding that takes advantage of this versatility.
The new taskbar is part of this new experience to get more out of the unfolded Fold 4.
This version eg. a new taskbar similar to that of a computer to provide quick access to favorite and recently used applications.
Also there is this new swipe gestures this, for example, lets you show open apps and then place them on a split screen.
For users of Google and Microsoft apps there are advantages to having more complete content drag and drop functionality, but it also stands out in particular. S Pen support this allows us to take notes or make drawings by taking advantage of this enlarged diagonal – if we have the optional accessory.
More zoom and more megapixels, this is war
The Galaxy Z Fold4’s commitment to photography is changing dramatically. Not the same internal cameras as in the Z Fold3, but yes in your rear sensor arraywhich has two important changes.
One in main sensor 50 Mpixel resolution and f/2.2 aperture (previously it was 12 MP f/1.8) and so will theoretically result in more detailed photos when zooming, but with this new sensor the opening loses the exact numbers and it will be necessary to see what impact both decisions have. .
There are also changes in the telephoto lens, which ceases to be a 12 MP f / 2.4 sensor with 2X zoom. 10MP f/2.4 sensor with 3X zoom. Again, the change is interesting and we’ll see if this improvement in zoom really lives up to expectations.
We can also enjoy the photo modes provided by this versatile format. Thus, we have the dual preview mode or the rear camera selfie. This is definitely one of the biggest advantages. Having a folding device allows you to take advantage of the best sensor, even for photos and videos we take ourselves.
