Ideal smartphone screen size chosen

We can finally put an end to the debate over what is the right phone size, because now we have the answer: 6.1 inches. Allison Johnson details it on The Verge.

From now on, all phones will meet a new and quite reasonable standard – a 6.1-inch screen. Take the Google Pixel 6A, as you guessed it, with its 6.1-inch screen. Compared to the 6.4 and 6.7-inch Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, it’s downright small. This makes us think we’re holding a small phone, but it’s actually much larger than the Mini.

If we can’t have really small phones, then we should have more like the Pixel 6A: small enough to somehow fit in your pocket, but big enough to be tolerated by people who love big phones. Some exceptions will be allowed, but on the authority given to me by literally anyone: 6.1 inches is the new standard. Here are my thoughts.

Small enough to qualify as a compact phone

Sony has unveiled a new “compact” phone, which will likely be the Xperia 5 IV, which, like its predecessor, will have a 6.1-inch display. This is considered compact, as most Android phones (especially the most popular budget and mid-range devices) now hover around the 6.5-inch mark.

Also, objectively, not so little. Here’s what really happened: I told the rest of the team while unboxing the Google Pixel 6A. boundaryWhat a cute little phone. Little baby Pixel 6! They were quick to remind me that 6.1 inches is not a small phone size. When you spend most of your time on big Android phones, you may forget what small screen and regular screen are.

Big enough to be acceptable for big phone fans

The basic models of the Samsung Galaxy S22 and iPhone 13 have a diagonal of 6.1 inches. In the US, at least, these are mostly Android and iOS flagship phones – you can bump up the price and screen size, but everything starts at 6.1 inches. If most people already see it by default, I say it’s resolved! No need to increase the standard screen size – we are all happy with it.

Someone needs to put an end to screen size inflation.

Years ago, we were all walking around with phones smaller than 5 inches in our pockets, and you know what? It was fine. But then we got greedy for more square inches and pixels. We are here. The biggest iPhone has a massive 6.7-inch size. What’s next, the 7.6 inch screen? You’ll even need to double it up to carry it with you! Imagine! The madness must stop.

I’m not saying that every phone should be 6.1 inches. People said, and people want maxes, pluses and ultras. I just politely please find a reasonable middle ground that will please both small phone lovers and everyone else before it’s too late. For now I’ll just sit here and cry silently as I insert my SIM card into another phone with a big 6 inch screen.
