Today Sony has officially unveiled its new Xperia 5 IV smartphone. The device is an evolution of last year’s model, and this improvement mainly affected the hardware platform and power subsystem, but minimally affected the camera.

If the Xperia 5 III uses the SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, the novelty is built on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 – this is not a flagship, but the Xperia 5 IV is far from the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 models. The screen has not changed at all – a 6.1-inch OLED panel with a resolution of 2520×1080 pixels and a frame rate of 120 Hz is also installed. Screen protection is now provided by the tempered glass Gorilla Glass Victus against Gorilla Glass 6 in the previous version.

Despite having almost the same dimensions as the Xperia 5 III, the novelty received a battery with a capacity of 5,000 mAh (4,500 mAh in the Xperia 5 III). As for autonomy, the smartphone user should not worry, and Sony says the battery will last at least three years. Relatively fast charging is supported at 30 W (50% of the device is charged in 30 minutes). And there’s wireless charging, a first for the Xperia 5 series.

6.1-inch OLED display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, four 12-megapixel cameras, 5000 mAh. Presented the sub-flagship Sony Xperia 5 IV, which stands as the Galaxy S22 Ultra

The set of sensors is traditional for Sony: the Japanese company sticks to 12-megapixel sensors on its flagships more tightly than Samsung. The main camera uses 16mm, 24mm and 60mm EFR lenses. Optical zoom – 3.5x is achieved by the difference in focal lengths (there is no longer a periscope module, as before), but each module has an autofocus system (OIS – two of the three modules). The front camera also has a 12-megapixel detector, but no autofocus.

Xperia 5 IV dimensions – 156x67x8.2 mm, weight – 172 grams. The configuration of the device, in addition to everything listed above, includes a USB 3.1 Type-C port, an NFC chip, a standard headphone jack, a slot for microSD cards, stereo speakers and, of course, protection against dust and water. Based on IP68 rating.

The Xperia 5 IV will be available in three colors, green, black and white, in mid-September. The price is an impressive 1050 Euros. You can buy a Galaxy S22 Ultra for roughly the same amount in Europe, and the new iPhone 14 Pro will likely be even cheaper. By the way, there is only one memory configuration – 12/128 GB. Source
