In July, Xiaomi launched its latest flagship device, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, exclusively in the Chinese market. Reviewers praised the device for its camera performance. Now, a few months after launch, the device has finally passed DxOMark’s camera test.
Xiaomi 12S Ultra managed to take fifth place in the global rating of DxOMark smartphone cameras. It scored 138 in the test, pushing the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max out of the top 5, with both 137 points.
The device is praised for its excellent overall image quality in most use cases and its versatility, offering the user two different image signatures to choose from. Low-light imaging is also a strong point, as the camera offers wide dynamic range in night mode. Ultra-wide and zoom cameras provide great images at any distance, especially at long distances. The camera also has excellent video performance, offering wide dynamic range, natural texture reproduction and good exposure.
However, the camera sometimes lacks consistency, resulting in inconsistencies between images, sometimes even between consecutive frames. Also, the preview does not always match the final captured image. Also, the camera struggles with very difficult lighting situations, such as high-contrast scenes.
