What happened to such high prices?
While writing this content, I frequently visited the iPhone news we shared with you during past launch periods, and I always saw the same discussions in the comment section. Why are the prices so high? Speaking of exchange rate difference and taxes, what happened when the price of a phone exceeded 17,999 TL, even 57 thousand TL? For example, when the iPhone 3G went on sale in Turkey, 1 US dollar was about 1.30 TL. When the iPhone 13 appeared, it was about 1 US dollar and 8.40 TL. In addition to the exchange rate difference, the taxes levied on telephones in our country should not be underestimated.
In an article we shared with you earlier, we explained this situation with an example. When buying a mobile phone in Turkey we pay 1% share of the Ministry of Culture, 10% TRT banderole fee, 50% SCT and finally 18% VAT. When these heavy taxes are combined with the exchange rate difference, this sad scene ensues.
Of course, this doesn’t just apply to iPhones. At least, we find it difficult to access many things, from a mid-range smartphone to an efficient computer, which we can no longer explain are no longer a luxury, because the prices are quite high. So if this situation changes, will prices improve? If TL gains in value and taxes are lowered to a reasonable level, maybe one day, why not…
