Microsoft has set the date for the next presentation: when and what the company will show

This handwritten text was considered one of the hints that the presentation will focus on Microsoft Surface tablets and laptops. The rumors are fueled by recent leaks posted by The Verge and other publications.

  • The Surface Pro and Surface Laptop are the devices most likely to receive the update, but if you look at all the devices, you can see that none of them have current generation processors.
  • Surface Pro, Surface Go 3, Surface Laptop, and Surface Laptop Studio all use processors from a generation or two earlier.
  • With the currently out of stock Surface Studio 2 all-in-one, the situation is even worse: it’s still listed as an up-to-date product, but it’s already so old that Microsoft had to change the system requirements for Windows 11. run the operating system on it.

Rumors about specific specs and other details have been pretty vague so far, but an update with 12th Gen Intel processors for the Surface Pro and laptop is likely.

A report from WinFuture suggests that the Surface Pro 9 will receive a separate Arm-based version with the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 SoC alongside 12th generation U-series chips. The same report claims there will be no sequel from AMD. Ryzen-based version of the Surface Laptop 4.

The Surface thing is part of a larger effort Microsoft has made around Windows 11’s 2022 update (also known as 22H2), which it released to the public after months of testing. A smaller suite of updates will be released in October, including File Explorer tabs and a revamped Photos app. Microsoft can use the Surface event to announce the availability of this update.
