The iPhone 14 Plus is Apple’s latest entry-level iPhone alongside the standard iPhone 14 with a larger screen, improved cameras, performance and more. Announced last month, the iPhone 14 Plus officially began shipping to customers on Friday, October 7.
Before the new iPhone is expected to start shipping to customers, we wanted to highlight some possibly lesser-known facts and little information about the iPhone 14 Plus.
Longer battery life
The iPhone 14 Plus is the first entry-level iPhone with an enlarged 6.7-inch display, historically reserved only for the most expensive iPhone models. With a screen that lacks Pro features like ProMotion and more internal space dedicated to the battery, the iPhone 14 Plus has the longest battery life of any non-Pro iPhone.
According to Apple, users can expect up to 26 hours of video playback and up to 100 hours of audio playback on the iPhone 14 Plus. Like all iPhone 14 models, iPhone 14 Plus supports MagSafe, which can charge the device up to 50% capacity in 30 minutes.
Same cameras as iPhone 14
The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus share the same specs and camera specs, so customers choosing between the two devices don’t have to wonder which one can take better photos.
Both models are equipped with a 12-megapixel main camera with ƒ/1.5 aperture and optical image stabilization with sensor shift. The 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera on both models has a 120-degree field of view, an ƒ/2.4 aperture, and a 13mm lens. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are also equipped with True Tone flash, Deep Fusion support, Smart HDR, Photonic Engine, and a brand new selfie camera with autofocus.
Powered by A15 Bionic
The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are powered by the A15 Bionic chip of last year’s iPhone 13 Pro. There are two variants of the A15 Bionic chip, one with a 4-core GPU and the other with a 5-core GPU. Last year, the 5-core GPU was reserved for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max only, while the lower-end models had a 4-core GPU.
Powered by the chip of last year’s iPhone 13 Pro, Apple says the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus offer powerful performance for apps, games, and augmented reality. All iPhone 14 models, including the iPhone 14 Pro, have an updated interior design for better thermal management.
Super Retina XDR display
The iPhone 14 Plus has a 6.7-inch display with the same screen size as the iPhone 14 Max. The Super Retina XDR display on the iPhone 14 Plus has a resolution of 458 pixels per inch (ppi), can reach a maximum brightness of up to 1200 nits for HDR content, has a contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1, support for True Tone and Wide color.
durability
iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are protected by a ceramic display on the windshield. The Ceramic Shield was announced alongside the iPhone 12 and adds nanocrystals to the display glass, providing better protection from drops and scratches. All iPhone 14 models are also IP68 rated, meaning they can withstand being submerged under 6 meters of water for 30 minutes. Source
