Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro introduced

Today, at its next Made by Google event, the American company presented its new smartphones Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. These are the first models in the world to run Android 13 out of the box (and will receive security updates for five years) and are the only ones based on the single-chip Tensor G2 platform, which sadly never gets any faster. The best SoCs from MediaTek and Qualcomm.

Google didn’t highlight performance on the first Tensor and neither has it on the second generation SoC. Roughly 800,000 points in AnTuTu is the level of Snapdragon 888/888 Plus. But Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro users don’t need a lot of power – they’re not gaming models. At the same time, by optimizing Android 13 in real usage scenarios, new products can be better than other flagships. And, of course, the SoC’s focus is on AI and machine learning (especially camera) capabilities: in this context, the Tensor G2 should be at the level of other top SoCs, if not ahead.

The CPU is represented by two Cortex-X1 cores, two Cortex-A76 and four Cortex-A55. The configuration is the same as in the first Tensor, but the frequencies are slightly higher. GPU new instead – Arm Mali-G710 MC10 instead of Mali-G78. It is on him that the biggest load drops during acceleration of AI missions. Each model comes in two configurations: 8/128 and 8/256GB on the Pixel 7 and 12/128 and 12/256GB on the Pixel 7 Pro.

Overall, both models support wireless charging, are equipped with Titan M2 chips, and have dust and water protection according to IP68 rating. The front cameras are the same – sensors with a resolution of 10.8 MP and support for 4K video recording.

The Pixel 7 camera is represented by two modules. The first has a 50-megapixel sensor, wide-angle lens and optical stabilization, while the other has a 12-megapixel sensor and ultra-wide-angle lens. The Pixel 7 Pro has a third module that includes a 48MP sensor and a lens that provides 5x optical zoom. Accordingly, the maximum zoom is 8x on Pixel 7 and 30x on Pixel 7 Pro.

Pixel 7 Pro received an OLED display with a diagonal of 6.7 inches, QHD + resolution and a frame rate of 120 Hz. Pixel 7 has a simpler display: 6.3 inches, Full HD+ and 90 Hz.

Pixel 7 Pro battery capacity is 5000 mAh, Pixel 7 battery capacity is 4355 mAh. For the Pixel 7 in the basic configuration, they’re asking $600 or €650 for the Pixel 7 Pro – $900 or $900. Pre-orders are available starting today, retail sales will begin on October 13. Source
