Japanese publication Nikkei disassembled the iPhone 14 Pro Max smartphone and calculated the cost of its components, which hit a record high, exceeding the cost of iPhone 13 Pro Max components by about 20%.
The cost of iPhone 14 Pro Max components is estimated to be around $501, which is more than $60 more than the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The cost of components for flagship Pro Max models has ranged from $400-$450 since their release in 2018.
The report states that the main reason for the increase in the cost of the Pro Max series is the Apple A16 Bionic single-chip system, with the price of the platform reaching $110, which is 2.4 times more than the Apple A15. As we reported earlier, the new platform is only 5% faster than its predecessor.
In addition, the price of the new camera module and CMOS sensor is about 50% higher. The report says that Apple’s inability to pass on the increased costs to consumers will affect the company’s profitability. iPhone 14 components are mostly sourced from US suppliers and make up 32.4% of components, about 10% more than the iPhone 13 series.
