The accident detection function of the new Apple smartphones started working with errors. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal.

WSJ journalists drew attention to the problem. According to columnist Joanna Stern, users of new Apple devices have encountered this feature while traveling. In addition, cases were recorded where Collision Detection was incorrectly activated when the smartphone was dropped on the floor of the car and when traveling on sharp-turning roads.

The information that the new option failed was confirmed by the employees of the special service. So, representatives of one of the call centers serving the emergency services said they have recorded six cases of alarm activation at the Six Flags amusement park. Despite everything, the Accident Detection function called the police while smartphone owners were on a roller coaster ride.

According to Joanna Stern, cases of incorrect activation of the new function of the iPhone 14 will be recorded more often – because more and more people will use existing smartphones. The columnist stressed that the algorithm responsible for Crash Detection’s work “doesn’t know the difference between an exciting trip and a fatal accident” – and rescuers may also be confused by the iPhone auto-informer’s statements that an accident has occurred.
