channel 24 has prepared some simple tips to help you choose exactly the power bank you need. While this may seem like a simple task, there are a few important things to consider that will help you save money and choose exactly what you need.

Decide what you need

An important tip is to choose a power bank suitable for the device you want to charge. When choosing a powerbank, pay attention to the following questions:

  • What capacity is required to charge your device?
  • Does your device support fast charging?
  • If you want to charge a laptop, what kind of connector does this laptop have?
  • How many devices do you want to charge with a powerbank?

power banks for smartphones

A good power bank for a smartphone shouldn’t be too big, but it should have enough capacity. For example, a 10,000 mAh power bank allows you to charge your smartphone approximately 2 times. This is enough, and the size of such additional batteries often does not exceed the smartphone itself.

Larger models with 20,000 mAh and more will come in handy for a weekend trip or if you won’t be able to charge your smartphone for a few days. But such a battery will have a larger size and it will no longer be possible to carry it in the pocket.

Many smartphones support fast charging. Check if your chosen power bank supports fast charging or Power Delivery for iPhone. This is not necessary – your smartphone will charge even if the power bank does not support these functions, but with them it will be several times faster.

Charging the laptop

To charge a laptop using a power bank, you need three things.

  • Firstly, the power bank itself must have a capacity of at least 20,000 mAh, and of course, the larger the volume, the better.
  • Second, the power bank must support high charging capacity. How much depends on the laptop. Chromebooks and MacBook Airs require a power bank of at least 30 watts. The 13-inch MacBook Pro requires 61 watts, the 15-inch MacBook Pro 87 watts, and the 16-inch MacBook Pro requires a minimum of 96 watts. Check your old laptop charger to see what wattage you need.
  • Third, check if your power bank is compatible with a particular laptop model. The power bank may only support charging the device via the USB-C connector. In this case, you need to make sure that your laptop has such a connector and supports the possibility of charging the battery with its help.

power banks for tablets

The advice here is almost the same when choosing a power bank for a smartphone. The only con is that you should choose a larger capacity power bank because a tablet’s battery usually has a slightly larger capacity than a smartphone’s.

For example, with a capacity of 20,000 mAh, you will be able to charge your tablet 1 to 1.5 times. If you have a very large tablet, such as the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, choose a capacity of up to 27,000 mAh.

Power banks for tablets have a minimum power of 10 W, which makes charging quite fast. Tablets that support fast charging, such as the iPad (2019) and any iPad Pro, can be charged up to 50% in just 1 hour with a power bank that supports Power Delivery.

power banks for other devices

Devices such as headphones, e-books, and smartwatches often have a small battery. Therefore, you only need a low-power powerbank with a capacity of 5,000 mAh. In general, any power bank is suitable for this. Note that you’re probably using your power bank to charge things like headphones and your smartphone. Therefore, you should choose a good power bank for a smartphone with several USB ports. This would make more sense than buying a small extra power bank for your accessories.

There are also large capacity batteries that are an effective emergency power source. For example, if there is no electricity at home for a long time, or you are going to a place where there is no electricity, but you have several chargers, they will accept it.

Usually, such batteries have several charging ports that allow you to connect any charger and charge several devices at once, including a full-size outlet and 220-volt power.
