Sony has announced on its official Xperia Facebook page that it has started rolling out Android 13 for the Xperia 1 IV and Xperia 5 IV. The tech giant from Japan did not provide any details on which regions the update will spread to first. Major Android updates are usually rolled out to all users, even Sony. As such, it only takes a few days or weeks before the update is available to all users of the two flagships.

Android 13 introduces a host of new features, starting with the improved Material You theme, which gives you even more flexibility to adapt the color of the UI to the background image you choose. This even works on Android 13 with third-party app icons. The new music widget shows the music currently playing on the home screen along with a large album art image.

Now the language can be selected individually for each program, not just for the whole system. If apps have access to your own photo library, after updating you can only grant apps access to selected images and videos, not your entire library.

In Android 13, you can more conveniently manage messages and disable them for individual programs directly from the lock screen. Bluetooth LE Audio and improved Chrome OS integration are also among the new features of Android 13. It is not yet known whether Sony will offer features beyond the standard features of the new operating system.
