Recently, a video was posted on the Chinese alternative YouTube social network Bilibili showing a modding project where an iPhone motherboard was combined with components from Motorola Razr and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, resulting in the Galaxy Z Flip4 5G style iPhone.
The modding project is somewhat difficult to implement – the screen barely fits in the case, it is partially 3D printed, the space inside is not optimally used, and the device looks much thicker than competitors of similar formats.
But the result is interesting, because a smartphone with a foldable screen definitely looks like an iPhone thanks to its straight edges, large cut and square camera module, and iOS with a foldable screen is always a novelty. At the same time, the operating system is not optimized for this form factor, but in expanded form, the screen is made in a format similar to that of a regular iPhone.
In fact, the smartphone works more or less normally – as does web browsing, camera use. The bottom half of the device houses the motherboard, including the processor and memory, while the top half is used for the battery and camera module.
Towards the end of the video, the enthusiast shows how many components were tested to build this prototype, which shows how complex such projects remain, but it should only be a matter of time before Apple itself releases a complex iPhone.
