Qualcomm today introduced its next-generation flagship chipset, dubbed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The new processor offers improved performance and 40% higher efficiency. Brands like OnePlus and Xiaomi have already announced that their upcoming flagships will be powered by Qualcomm’s new chipset. Now Meizu has joined the bandwagon by confirming that it is also developing a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 smartphone, possibly Meizu 19. Here are the details.
Meizu’s official Weibo account recently announced that the brand’s upcoming flagship smartphone will be the first to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. Xiaomi has made similar claims, so we’ll have to wait and see who wins. The Chinese OEM hasn’t revealed the name of the phone, but we’ve been expecting it to be the Meizu 19 since its predecessor, the Meizu 18, was launched almost a year ago.
It was reported that the new Meizu phone will be produced by Foxconn. The phone should still be in trial production and testing phase. We can expect its launch in January next year. More details are likely to come soon.
Speaking of the recently released Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, it is manufactured on a 4nm process and features a new 1+2+2+3 architecture with 3.2GHz Cortex-X3-based Kryo supercores, four 2.8GHz. productive cores (2×Cortex A715+ 2×Cortex A710) and three energy-efficient 2.0 GHz Cortex-A510 cores.
