Nikkei reports that Apple plans to purchase the latest image sensors from Japanese company Sony for iPhone 15 series smartphones.

The new Sony Semiconductor Solutions sensor, currently only available from the Japanese company, is said to approximately double the level of the saturation signal in each pixel compared to the others.

Nikkei clarified that the company’s developers have announced the technology in the past. This is the industry’s first multi-layer CMOS sensor.

The technology allows you to expand the dynamic range, increase the light sensitivity and reduce the noise level, which makes the pictures on smartphone cameras even better.

According to Nikkei, this technology has not yet been used in Sony’s own devices. However, there is no definite information in the sources about whether the sensors will be used on all iPhone 15s or only on the Pro series. According to journalists, only the iPhone 15 Ultra will have the new sensors.
