As Channel 24 reports, Meraki is one of the world’s largest cloud and network solutions developers. It provides routers, access points and other network devices. In November 2022, the company blocked all user profiles and devices of Russians without warning, but they managed to circumvent the bans by hiding their real IP addresses. This method only works on access points so far, but soon even this loophole will be closed.
what is known
Russian publication CNews writes that in early December, the company temporarily lifted the ban. The reasons for this decision are unknown, but it was probably made to switch from a partial lock to a full and permanent lock that didn’t work as Meraki intended.
Thus, from December 21, 2022, all Meraki network devices (routers and cloud access points) located in Russia will be strictly disconnected and blocked from the company’s cloud services. They will also disappear from the owners’ personal accounts in the cloud. Equipment shutdown will be based on geolocation data.
Russian and Belarusian Meraki users say that the brand’s devices will be blocked at the server level and will stop receiving firmware updates. The brand indicates that it operates in accordance with US law and meets the requirements of regulatory agencies and parent company Cisco.
