Lenovo introduced an innovation for its laptops this CES 2023 that we would like to see in more models. Along with the newly released ThinkBook 16p Gen4, the new Lenovo Magic Bay. A set of accessories that magnetically attach to the laptop and allow you to significantly expand its possibilities.

There are currently only three accessories, but the mechanism opens the door to see many more possibilities. We explain how this offering from Lenovo works. It’s an optional add-on for your new laptop, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it could expand quickly.

The first accessory Lenovo Magic Bay 4K Webcam. As the name suggests, it is a high-resolution webcam. It features autofocus and auto-framing, recording up to 4K at 30fps, and auto light adjustment. It also has a physical top to guarantee privacy if we want it.

Besides the quality of the webcam itself, the most interesting aspect is that it can rotate at various angles. This allows us to aim wherever we want. can also be rotated, thus acting as a rear camera for the laptop. For example, it is very useful if we want to target what we see in a video conference and not just ourselves.

It’s a complement, partly reminiscent of the Continuity Camera, where we can use the iPhone as a webcam on Macs. In this case, instead of betting on mobile, Lenovo recommends its own accessory.

The second accessory is Lenovo Magic Bay Light. In this case, we have an LED light that can be adjusted up to 200 lux. For video calls or videos where light is important, it is an accessory that automatically turns on when we activate the laptop’s built-in camera, allowing us to get natural lighting.

If the third accessory Lenovo Magic Bay LTE. It’s an LTE modem, a connector for when we don’t have a good connection or don’t trust public WiFi networks. The device has an LED indicator for connectivity and a USB Type-C port for easy compatibility with other laptops.

The three Magic Bays will be available from summer 2023 when the ThinkBook 16p Gen 4 goes on sale in Spain. After seeing it in the presentation, we can say that it is quickly removed and installed and its usage potential is quite high. We’ll see if these accessories will start to appear more often.
