With each iteration, Apple makes the distinction between Pro and non-Pro models more pronounced. We know that the upcoming iPhone 15 and Plus models will get the Smart Island feature. Additionally, the high-end iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max (or Ultra) will have some premium features to stand out and highlight their differences.
Future Pro models will be equipped with an A17 Bionic chip based on TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process, according to Nikkei Asia. Thus, it will increase performance and power consumption. Last year, only the Pro models were equipped with Apple’s latest chips.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, iPhone 15 Pro models will have at least USB 3.2 or USB-C ports that support Thunderbolt 3. This will enable much faster data transfer. The USB-C port on standard iPhone 15 models will still be limited to USB 2.0 speeds.
According to research firm TrendForce, iPhone 15 Pro models will be delivered with 8GB of increased RAM. At the same time, vanilla versions will still use 6 GB of RAM. Thus, it will not stand a chance compared to the current models. The extra RAM allows apps like Safari to keep more content active in the background.
Kuo also claims that the Pro models will feature solid-state volume and power buttons. iPhone 15 Pro models will come with two additional Taptic Engines that provide haptic feedback to simulate the feeling of pressing a button without actually moving it. It’s somewhat similar to the Home button on the latest iPhone SE or the Touch on the new MacBook.
Ming-Chi Kuo said the Pro Max will have a periscopic telephoto lens. This should allow the device to support at least 6x optical zoom compared to 3x on iPhone 14 Pro models. Meanwhile, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggested that the name of the Pro Max could be changed to the iPhone 15 Ultra, just like the Apple Watch Ultra.
