Motorola Defy will have satellite communication support

British secure smartphone maker Bullitt Group has announced that the company’s satellite communications application, Bullitt Satellite Messenger, will be available on Motorola Defy phones. Commercial operation of the service will begin in Europe and North America in the first quarter of 2023. It will launch in 2023 in Australia, New Zealand, Africa and Latin America, and elsewhere in the second half of next year. Satellite access is provided by Skylo (via NarrowBand IoT protocol).

The Bullitt service runs through the proprietary Bullitt Satellite messenger supported by the appropriate hardware components. The program first tries to send messages over Wi-Fi or cellular connection, and if this is not possible (no signal), satellite connection is used. Motorola Defy’s SOS Assist feature will be available for the first year, then with a $5 monthly subscription.
